BROOKLYN MOVEMENT CENTER HAS AN OPENING FOR A FINANCE AND OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Brooklyn Movement Center (BMC) grows Black social justice leadership and people power in Bed-Stuy & Crown Heights. BMC sustains long-time residents in their fight for the most basic needs our community has: sustainable housing, food security and community safety. We are building a political home for Black joy, Black resistance and Black futures in Central Brooklyn.

We’re looking for an effective manager and leader who will ensure the smooth operational functioning of a rapidly evolving organization. A competitive candidate is a systems builder who can implement and maintain financial and administrative processes and structures.

You’ll be responsible for: 

Financial Controls — Work closely with our fiscal sponsor and Executive Director to build, maintain and fulfill accounting procedures. This includes:

  • Accurately tracking, coding and documenting all revenue- and expense-related transactions
  • Managing the organizational budget
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and generating financial reports

Operations and Scheduling 

  • Manage relationships with vendors and contractors/consultants
  • Track and maintain telephone, email and snail-mail correspondences
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of the organization’s physical plant, equipment, supplies, etc.
  • Coordinate the synchronization of staff calendars and scheduling of organizational events
  • Manage organizational databases

Human Resources

  • Manage the hiring, on-boarding and orientation process for BMC employees
  • Maintain the personnel records and benefit portfolios of BMC employees

Experience and skills needed:

  • At least two years’ experience in organizational management that includes financial accounting, administration and systems building.
  • Familiarity and ease with technology, management systems and on-line administrative tools
  • Detail oriented with an ability to keep an eye on the bigger picture
  • The ability to take initiative, trouble-shoot and get results.
  • Experience in Central Brooklyn issues and/or racial justice organizing are all advantages, but not required.

Salary and benefits:

$60,000 with full benefits.
