BROOKLYN MOVEMENT CENTER HAS A JOB OPENING FOR A CAMPAIGN ORGANIZER

The Brooklyn Movement Center (BMC) grows Black social justice leadership and people power in Bed-Stuy & Crown Heights. BMC sustains long-time residents in their fight for the most basic needs our community has: sustainable housing, food security and community safety. We are building a political home for Black joy, Black resistance and Black futures in Central Brooklyn.

We’re looking for a dynamic campaign strategist and organizer who can engage a range of BMC and community stakeholders. A competitive candidate is a community mobilizer with strong people and communication skills, deep ties to and history with the Central Brooklyn community, and a proven track record of campaign wins .

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing, nurturing and managing strategic relationships with community leaders
  • Supporting and serving as the team leader of organizing and campaign teams that will include BMC organizers, canvassers, members, and youth interns.
  • Developing campaign and field outreach strategies in close collaboration with executive and organizing staff.
  • Coordinating direct actions and organizing tactics in service of campaign goals.
  • Supporting the development of future issue campaigns.

Experience and skills needed for the job: 

  • 3-5 years community organizing experience
  • At least 1 – 2 years experience leading a campaign team and developing campaign strategy.
  • A demonstrated commitment to principled struggle towards Black liberation
  • Strong people skills and ability to communicate effectively across several mediums
  • Deep familiarity with networks and organizations in Black Brooklyn

Salary and benefits: $65k – $70k with full benefits for a one-year, full-time position with the possibility of longer-term employment
