About the Center for Human Environments ​:The Center for Human Environments (CHE) brings together a diverse interdisciplinary team of social scientists, planners, educators, designers and health experts. Our research addresses the problems faced by people in the full range of settings, from schools, prisons, hospitals and other institutions, through community groups to city level national and international agencies and organizations. CHE research is typically oriented towards finding solutions to issues of social and environmental justice which means that they are carried out in highly collaborative ways with our intended recipients and often in partnership with our funders.

CHE is made up of a number of distinct research groups (currently​, College Access: Research & Action (CARA), Community Justice Collaborative Research Group, Housing Environments Research Group, Narrating Change Research Group.​​Public Science Project, Public Space Research Group ​and the​ Children’s Environments Research Group, ​This federal structure requires that we have a grants administrator who can flexibly function at the center of it all, and closely manage the funds of our projects and complex transactions with the CUNY Research Foundation.

Job Description​:

Supporting the administrative and accounting functions of the Center for Human Environments, a research center of The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Full-time, with an annual renewal process.

The job is temporarily remote work but, if there is a need, the GC building can be accessed by following special safety and health checks and getting advance permission.

Job Responsibilities:

The Grants Administrator reports to the Director of the Center for Human Environments and works with the coordinators of the seven CHE research groups.

Duties include but are not limited to:

●Assisting CHE research directors in the pre and post-award administration of research grants and contracts

●Managing​ invoices and payments for all projects of the Center.

●Serving as a liaison between CHE Research Group Directors and the Research Foundation and Graduate Center Administration

●Coordinating with relevant GC-CUNY departments to ensure compliance with GC and sponsor’s requirements and regulations.

●Serving as a consultant and resource to faculty and staff on research grants and contracts.

●Supporting CHE project directors in the planning and budget preparation of new funding applications and renewals.

●Maintaining CHE website and its link to the CHE research groups websites.

●Assisting the CHE director preparing a quarterly News Bulletin for distribution to funders and collaborators.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and four years’ related experience required.

A preferred candidate should have:

❏Experience in accounting and business administration.

❏Experience and comfort using database systems to manage tasks, including Microsoft Excel, Google Suite and others.

❏The ability to take the initiative and work both independently and collaboratively with diverse groups.

❏Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through on details with a high-level of accuracy.

❏Excellent written and oral communication skills.

❏Ability to meet tight deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting salary from ​$50,000 to $60,000, ​commensurate with education and experience. ​Health insurance and other benefits negotiable.
