Position Summary
Coordinates volunteer cultivation and engagement, grows the organization’s volunteer networks, and supports growth of partner organization collaboration through community building events and direct actions
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
- Determines volunteer needs and opportunities within AAF’s departments and programs, including production projects, community building events, clinic support work, organizing and advocacy, social media, and grassroots fundraising initiatives
- Develops annual volunteer engagement expectations, goals and outcomes for each area of work in conjunction with AAF’s strategic plan
- Communicates with volunteers, potential volunteers, and partner organizations through email, phone, and social media using the tone and style of AAF
- Creates and updates volunteer recruitment materials and resources as needed, ensuring that volunteers know and are comfortable utilizing the tone and brand of AAF
- Plans and facilitates volunteer orientations, meetings, trainings, and workshops in collaboration with department staff
- Supports planning and organization of community building events and direct actions and represents AAF at events
- Manages and updates volunteer database and other internal tracking systems
- Supports growth and leadership development of AAF volunteer networks across the country
- Cultivates relationships with organizations and individuals for strategic opportunities for collaboration
- Facilitates and works to grow AAF’s “Scrappy Coalition” of small, independent abortion activist groups
- Some travel required, as well as some evening/weekend events
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Incredibly organized
- Experience in community organizing or progressive political campaigns
- Group facilitation skills
- Event planning experience
- Experience with direct action
- Attention to detail and deadlines. Strong follow-through
- Follow-up, time management, multi-tasking, and the ability to shift priorities
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently requiring minimal supervision and under pressure
- Sharp strategic and advocacy knowledge and instincts
- Experience working with Salsa Engage or a relevant database CRM
- Some basic design skills (e.g. using Canva)
- A self-starter
