Community Asset Interns will assist KCDA with identifying new, grass-roots organizations that can serve as community partners and outcomes on misdemeanor and felony cases.
What is Community Asset Mapping?
Community Asset Mapping is the process of creating a real mapping of local organizations, institutions, and experiences that help to establish a community.
What will be my responsibilities?
Through a community-engaged approach, interns will gather information about available resources and assets that exist within the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood. In groups, interns will embark on this social investigation, and gain a first-hand view of the community, its assets and the people that help to shape the neighborhood. Interns will be trained and provided with maps and other tools to record asset locations and assist them throughout their walk.
How many hours a week will I be interning?
Ideally, interns will work Tuesdays and Thursdays, an average of 8-10 hours per week, with one-day reserved for “community walks” and the other day dedicated to breakout groups and data analysis.
Is the internship paid?
High school students should be enrolled in SIF or another internship funded program at their schools and meet their eligibility requirements. Undergraduate and Graduate students should confirm their eligibility to receive internship credit. KCDA will not provide funding.
How do I apply?
Prospective interns should submit a letter of interest to brownb2@brooklynda.org, no later than Monday, September 30, 2019.
I have more questions, whom should I contact?
Please contact Bobbie Brown at brownb2@brooklynda.org or (718) 250-2331 if you have questions or concerns.
