Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) prepares, trains, and places women in careers in the skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades, helping women achieve economic independence and a secure future. Founded in 1978, NEW is a sector-based workforce development program that focuses on placing women in skilled, unionized jobs in the trades with starting wages averaging $17 per hour, benefits, and a path to higher-wage employment. NEW primarily serves low-income minority women from all five boroughs in New York City. NEW’s program has grown significantly in the last five years. NEW trains over 400 women annually and has an annual budget of $3 million.
Position Overview
Nontraditional Employment for Women is seeking a Retention Coordinator to provide services for NEW’s employed graduates. NEW is expanding its retention efforts for its graduates as they navigate their nontraditional employment. The Retention Coordinator will work to foster a tradeswoman community that not only supports graduates as they enter the workforce, but informs their professional development and advancement over the course of their careers in the trades. Responsibilities include:
· Meeting contractual goals set for retention.
· Making regular contact with employed graduates and employers, in order to obtain proof of employment, ensure positive relationships, & acquire feedback on NEW programming
· Designing and coordinating graduate-centric programs that impart strategies for women’s success in a nontraditional workplace (e.g. workshops, explanatory materials, etc);
· Designing and coordinating new retention programs including an annual employer survey, a mentoring program, women’s committee development, and an alumni network;
· Providing individualized career coaching for graduates, upon request;
· Coordinating trade speakers for internal and external events, programs, and workshops
· Develop professional development and career advancement curriculums.
· Organizing special events—i.e. meet-ups, networking events, etc.
· Other duties as required
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, innovative thinker with management experience. S/he will possess the ability to take initiative, work independently, prioritize responsibilities and deadlines, and think creatively. The following qualifications and experience are required:
· Two (2) plus years of experience in program development or project management in workforce development, construction management, organized labor, or social services;
· Bachelor’s degree;
· Experience working with the NY Building Trades is a plus.
· Excellent relationship management skills
· Excellent communication skills; and
· Experience with grant and contract management
· Experience in data analysis.
