The Brooklyn Community Bail Fund is a nonprofit organization that prevents the unnecessary pretrial jailing of low income New Yorkers accused of misdemeanors. By paying small amounts of bail, we fight against incarceration based on poverty alone. Our clients are not forced to plead guilty just to get off Rikers Island. We help keep families together, productive and stable.
After bail is paid, the Fund provides and facilitates access to services for clients in need. Our staff works with teams of public defenders, reentry specialists and social service providers. The Fund reports on its results and advocates for reform of the bail system.
