Atlas: DIY, Powered by Immigrant Youth, seeks a 11-month contracted Community Organizer to join our staff as part of a coordinated citywide initiative, ActionNYC. The purpose of ActionNYC is to reach immigrant communities across New York City and connect individuals to free immigration legal consultations, document preparation, and application assistance. This position will work with our partnered school to conduct tailored outreach to engage and activate traditionally underserved immigrant communities and connect them with a free, comprehensive, and confidential legal screening to determine eligibility for immigration benefits.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate 15 immigration clinics with 21-24 appointment slots in NYC public schools;
- Establish, strengthen, and maintain connections with 12-15 NYC public schools primarily focusing on community and international high schools;
- Establish, strengthen, and maintain connections with trusted community groups, faith-based institutions, and other leaders in immigrant neighborhoods;
- Provide designated schools with support in conducting strategic and targeted outreach to promote upcoming clinics including tailored Know Your Rights workshops;
- Refer individuals to ActionNYC events and other services;
- Attend meetings and events to promote and provide information about ActionNYC,
- Use ActionNYC’s technological tool to collect and track data,
- Work closely with lead organizer to meet organizational goals and tasks.
Requirements:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish;
- Previous campaign and/or community outreach experience;
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities;
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Excellent communications skills, including written and verbal;
- Flexible schedule and availability for occasional weekend and evening events and meetings;
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners (e.g., churches, social service organizations);
- Ability to work in a team and in collaboration with other organizations and partners;
- Ability to work independently to meet ambitious goals;
- Comfort using technology and inputting data;
- Ability to work in a fast‐paced, high intensity environment;
- Demonstrated a commitment to social justice issues and experience working in youth empowerment advocacy;
- Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire others.
Preferred but not required:
- Directly impacted by the US immigration system ex. DACAmented or previously undocumented;
- Experience and knowledge in working within community context
Compensation:
Salary in the mid-30 range with commensurate benefits package. This position is full-time, hourly and non-exempt.
Timeline:
