The Nation Institute is seeking a highly motivated fellowship director with 7-10 years of editorial or reporting experience. The fellowship director will provide hands-on editorial support, supervision, and mentorship to fellows and interns.
Responsibilities include:
• Providing hands-on guidance to fellows developing reporting plans, including source cultivation, interviews, and document acquisition
• Offer guidance and connections to place fellows’ work in appropriate media outlets
• Develop a vision for the program’s growth and a plan to attract diverse fellows
• Mentor fellows on career advancement and promote their work
• Participate in routine meetings with fellows; connect fellows to one another and build community within the larger Nation Institute network
• Participate in development activities for the fellowship program
• Coordinate hiring of three interns for non-profit management, Nation Books,
and the Investigative Fund
• Set up educational seminars and other training opportunities for interns on a regular basis
• Serve as a resource for interns, providing mentorship and guidance as needed on research, fact-checking, reporting, and career development

This is a union position under a collective bargaining agreement with CWA Local 1180. Excellent benefits. The fellowship director will work 3 days per week at The Nation Institute’s offices in New York City.
