A conversation about workers, communities and social justice

Caring Across Generations Seeks Field Manager (NYC)

Caring Across Generations is a national campaign working to transform the country’s care system. We bring together aging Americans, people with disabilities, workers, and their families to protect all Americans’ right to choose the care and supports they need to live with dignity. Our work consists of field and digital organizing, civic engagement, policy development and advocacy, and culture change.

Led by Sarita Gupta and Ai-jen Poo (the executive directors of Jobs with Justice and the National Domestic Workers Alliance, respectively), we take an explicitly intersectional approach to our work, connecting the dots between immigration reform, gender equality, racial and economic justice, and the growing needs of our aging population. We see the next few years as an exciting and important time for our campaign, and are looking for a dynamic field manager to take our state campaign and field work to the next level.

The Position

The driving engine of Caring Across Generations (CAG) is our national field program. The program consists of a set of state partner organizations who receive general operating resources from CAG as well as strategic direction and technical assistance in the areas of policy, organizing, communications, and electoral work. With our support, state partners run campaigns that lead to concrete policy victories as well as lay the groundwork for long-term change.

Our field program is rooted in our theory of change: we believe in winning necessary policy change and building long-term power through grassroots organizing. We focus our state campaigns around the demand for universal long-term care or universal family care (ULTC/UFC). ULTC/UFC is visionary and inspirational and if won, would provide relief to millions of caregivers and care consumers, both now and in the future.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the campaign’s 12+ state-based partner organizations and the liaison between Caring Across staff and partner organizations
  • Provide direct 1:1 strategic guidance to field partners, with an emphasis on local/state campaign development and organizing plans
  • Manage the field program reporting and re-granting structure, including but not limited to writing planning and evaluation templates, and managing the distribution of resources to partners.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate the work of field partners within the campaign and external partners
  • Develop resources and tools to support field partners’ ability to run strategic campaigns and engage in organizing on long term care
  • Create and increase synergy between the work of field partners and the other areas of the campaign (i.e. culture change, communications, policy)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key campaign partners whose field work intersects with the work of Caring Across

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to social justice and social change.
  • 3+ years as an organizer or campaigner; national campaign experience is a plus.
  • Able to travel overnight up to 2-3 times a month.
  • Experience developing state and/or national campaign strategy for political organizing and/or issues campaigns
  • Understanding, experience, and familiarity with state and national political landscapes and legislative processes.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with on-line campaigning, policy advocacy, and coalition work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with computer operations and programs.
  • Familiarity/experience with long term care and caregiving is a plus; familiarity with social movements that work to support gender and racial equity, economic justice and/or immigrant rights.

Caring Across Generations’ commitment to social justice extends to dynamics within our organization. So the ability to work well with diverse groups of people and both a sensitivity to and appreciation for cultural differences is expected of all employees.

CAG is a project of and fiscally sponsored by Bend the Arc. CAG and Bend the Arc provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment, and encourage applications from women, people of color, persons with disabilities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.
