The Deputy Director provides financial and operational leadership. Primary responsibilities include organizational budgeting and financial leadership, human resources, project management, and operational oversight.
The Position:
The Deputy Director is a full-time exempt position, and is supervised by the National Director of BYP100. Salary range begins at $58,000 with full medical and dental benefits and a substantial vacation package.
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least five years of relevant work experience, including experience managing a team of staff and contractors, coordinating program finances, operations and administration
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to effectively contribute to and help lead a highly collaborative, consensus-driven democratic organization.
- Experience with foundation reporting, budgeting, and tracking.
- Ability to deploy thoughtful strategic development and align organizational systems, from technology, to workflow to culture.
- Strong commitment to building independent political power within and for Black communities
- Strong analysis of grassroots community organizing and the role of Black-led member-based organizations in social justice movements
- Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Google apps and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel periodically, nationally and internationally. Travel will be very limited given the direct staff and operations management responsibilities.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Understands the organizational structure of chapter based organizations, their administrative, emotional development and relationship management needs
- At least five years of experience in Black and/or LGBTQ community activism & organizing
- Has focused technical experience with individual donor and grants database tools
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Directing all aspects of financial management, budgeting and reviews in collaboration with national director
- Overseeing bookkeeping and financial management, and coordinate operations team
- Coordinating grants management
- Overseeing and coordinating annual audit.
- Directing, maintaining and updating human resources, including personnel policies, compliance and hiring, benefits, and more.
- Directing team activities that ensure a healthy and effective organizational culture.
- Coordinating staff and organizational performance and impact evaluation
- Managing operations, finance/development and member coordination staff
- Supporting coordination of major individual donor cultivation through outreach, networking, and special events, working closely with other staff
Educational requirements: We understand that there are a wide variety of paths towards the skills necessary for the position. As such, there are no formal educational requirements, as long as the applicant can demonstrate mastery of the desired skills. We do, however, value experience gained through educational programs, including credits completed in related subjects such as accounting or financial management.
