Riders Alliance Seeks Community Organizing Intern (NYC)

The Community Organizing Intern is a paid position. The intern will work with our organizers to conduct community outreach in targeted neighborhoods around New York City. He or she will also learn key media relations and political advocacy skills in coordination with Riders Alliance staff. In addition, the intern will attend monthly formal community organizing training workshops.

The intern will develop skills in:

  • community outreach and membership recruitment
  • relationship building and leadership training
  • issue campaign selection and execution
  • media relations and communications
  • political advocacy
  • organizational development
  • campaign research
  • database management
  • working with low-income communities of color

Applicants must be committed to social change and interested in learning about community organizing practices, transportation policy, and diverse communities around New York City. Applicants must be excellent with people, strong communicators, detail-oriented, timely, flexible, and able to identify sources of inequity. We strongly encourage applications from people of color, women, immigrants, indigenous people, LGBT people, and other communities.
