University Settlement Society of New York Seeks Site Director

Overview: Since 1886, University Settlement has been providing a variety of effective and strengths-based community-based programs for youth and families. Ingersoll Community Center is open six days a week and provides targeted programming for youth ages 5 through 21, with additional programs for adults and seniors. This position requires a creative, energetic, team-building leader committed to providing the highest quality of programming for children and families. The Site Director is responsible for the supervision of the community center’s day-to-day afterschool, evening and weekend programming, and ensuring that staff and programming meets all contractual benchmarks outlined by DYCD and the agency. The Site Director, effectively, manages the day-to-day programming, ensuring that administrative frameworks are in order, along with funder and community constituent benchmarks. This position serves as liaison between the agency and community stakeholders to help develop the program design and needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Program Director to build a team of creative, responsive, skilled workers who are dedicated to meeting the needs of the community. Hiring, supervising, scheduling, team-building, and evaluating of Center staff and consultants.
  • Assist Program Director with planning, development, and implementation of a broad and creative range of program components for underserved populations, with targeted programming for elementary, middle and high school youth as well as adults.
  • In collaboration with Program Director/Senior Program Director and Fiscal department, track and analyze program expenditures, while ensuring proper fiscal procedures are adhered to. Create and monitor a budget plan that supports program needs and ensure timely spending
  • Provide direct/indirect supervision of all program staff and delivery of services on a day-to-day basis, in order to ensure that all goals, targets, and performance outcomes are met.
  • Act as primary liaison between cornerstone program and other agency departments such as HR, Finance, Facilities, and IT; as well as all external partners
  • In conjunction with Program Director, set, communicate and enforce clear standards for quality youth and community development programming.
  • Collaborate and partner with other community based organizations and institutions to enhance the range of activities offered.
  • Oversee program outreach efforts to recruit participants and partners with a focus on retention strategies.
  • Manage ongoing relationships with NYCHA, DYCD, tenant groups and other key community representatives and family members.
  • Communicate with NYCHA, DYCD and other key stakeholders, as well as participate in relevant meetings
  • Manage day-to-day operations of site including scheduling, facilities maintenance, and activity coordination.
  • Facilitate meetings of site and building staff, including monthly building and staff meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all funding sources and regulating agencies; prepare reports as needed; monitor accuracy of participant attendance and data reporting; maintain files.
  • Maintain consistent communication with Program Director about all programmatic issues.
  • Develop and participate in high quality staff training.
  • Organize, plan and implement special community events.
  • Develop a monthly community and youth advisory board.
  • Participate in advocacy efforts for funding and other campaigns that affect the community.
  • Collaborate on cross-borough and agency/department-wide events and strategic planning efforts.
  • Complete other relevant duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Senior Program Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ as a Site Coordinator or Site Director, (i.e. youth development, program supervision, community organizing, management) required; Masters in related field preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving ability, and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and be comfortable making presentations
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative management team
  • Ability to think creatively, encourage enthusiasm and develop outstanding programs. Initiative, drive and programmatic vision expected.
  • Ability to assess priorities and take initiative. Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple task and projects
  • Experience designing and implementing innovative, hands-on activities that support social emotional learning and academic enrichment of the participants.

Hours: 35 hours per week, including evenings and some Saturdays

Salary: Commensurate with experience
