About the Organization: After 10 years, The Financial Clinic (“the Clinic”) has demonstrated a “gold standard” model for building financial security for working poor families. A high-performing organization with a focus on results, the Clinic has put $50 million back in the pockets of more than 15,000 customers, supported more than 345 organizations in 23 states embed financial security actions into their program models, and successfully launched several policy campaigns in support of working poor families.

The Financial Security Ecosystem is a “best practice” model, where financial security is first “baked into” partners’ services and programming to create financial security at scale, as well as accelerate their impact. Where front line staff surface issues, the ecosystem includes Financial Coaches and personal finance attorneys who assume responsibility for customers’ problems, and whose internal support boosts the skills and confidence of the front line staff.

The ecosystem features the following high-impact strategies:

  • Embedding: Building capacity of our partners through training and technical assistance
  • Deploying: Delivering direct services such as Financial Coaching and legal support
  • Change Machine: The Clinic’s cloud-based financial coaching platform
  • Advocacy: Leveraging lessons gained on-the-ground, as well as “big data” collected in its online platform, Change Machine, to create systemic solutions far beyond the initial initiative

Summary:

Working with the Clinic’s Capacity Building team, the Program Associate will provide programmatic, planning and administrative support for the department. The efforts of the Capacity Building department are organized through three lines of work – training, technical assistance and partnership management – with an emphasis combining both innovation and time-tested strategies. Supporting a team of Capacity Building staff working on these initiatives, the Program Associate will hold a variety of responsibilities related to the development and execution of current contract deliverables to ensure that the Clinic’s overall impact, goals and objectives are achieved. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment and maintain professionalism in a variety of situations with strong written and verbal communication, administrative organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Program Associate must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a variety of priorities and requests. The Program Associate must be creative and enjoy working within a small staff that is mission- and results-driven.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Capacity Building, the Program Associate will have the following responsibilities:

Training

  • Assist in creating training curricula around financial security and coaching topics for internal and external use.
  • Support the adaptation of training curricula for specific audiences (i.e. workforce programs, domestic violence agencies, etc.).
  • Manage logistics of Financial Security Trainings (i.e. securing training room space, ordering food, collecting attendance, reviewing evaluations, etc.).
  • Facilitate virtual training presentations for organizations and partners around the country.

Technical Assistance

  • Assist in providing technical assistance to nonprofit leadership teams in group sessions and/or one-on-one calls.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative technical assistance strategies.

Team Support

  • Assist in the development and implementation of program timelines to ensure timely completion of activities and deliverables.
  • Draft internal documents such as memoranda, environmental scans and best practice papers.
  • Communicate with external partners through email.
  • Support research and policy by elevating systemic financial security issues and relevant customer experiences through knowledge gained in the training and technical assistance work with organizations.
  • Coordinate administrative support for site visits, symposiums, and internal and external reports.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One year in a professional environment, preferably in a non-profit organization, is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Extremely comfortable presenting to audiences both online and in person.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent listening, public speaking, oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally to diverse audiences with knowledge, diplomacy, tact, patience, flexibility, and courtesy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a tenacious work ethic.
  • Highly resourceful team-player who works toward shared goals, comfort with periods of ambiguity, and constructive participation in ongoing organizational development.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving.
  • Dedication to and interest in the Clinic’s mission to build financial security for working poor Americans.
  • Proven capacity to work in a multicultural workforce, including sensitivity and competency in working with individuals and groups of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and lifestyle backgrounds.
  • Technologically savvy, with fluency in Google Documents, Google Calendar, Dropbox, Salesforce, Project Management tools (ex. Asana).
  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish required
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
