Organizational Overview: Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research and advocacy. The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, court officials and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors.

Position Description: The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault (the Alliance) received funding to train and mentor at least 45 -60 young women of color (age 13-21) from Black, Latino/a, and South Asian communities to become impactful organizers and change makers to combat sexual violence within their communities. Project DOT’s Young Women’s Leadership Initiative will engage young women of color from these 3 communities in multi-session (8-12) curriculum-based community activism using a healthy relationship and sexual violence prevention framework. The project is part of a larger citywide anti-sexual violence youth campaign targeting the three above-mentioned communities. The proposed community mobilization activities of this project will help reinforce the city-wide campaign messaging in the target communities. While there are similar youth leadership projects implemented across other US states, the uniqueness of the Alliance’s proposed program lies in its grassroots community-based approach, which engages young women of color to inspire community-level changes by leveraging their voices and creating a space for them to foster tangible leadership skills.
