The Street Vendor Project is looking to hire a community organizer. You will:
- Coordinate and implement membership recruitment activities including direct outreach on-the-street and through partner organizations
- Receive vendors who come in to the office during SVP drop-in hours
- Identify promising members to develop their interest and leadership in SVP
- Plan regular membership and committee meetings focused on skill shares, political education, connection to campaign work, and building SVP’s membership
- Maintain database for tracking participation and development of members
- Maintain relationships with allied community organizations
- Participate in legislative campaigns that engage members and leaders with elected officials and win concrete improvements in the lives of vendors.
- Like most roles in a small organization, this role is flexible and the exact duties will be depend on the person who we hire
We are looking to hire someone who:
- Loves to implement local programs and work on the ground with member leaders
- Is relentlessly dedicated to building the power of low-wage, immigrant workers to participate in transformative social and economic justice movement building
- Feels excited about working across multiple cultures and who is flexible and patient when communicating with people who speak different languages
- Is a thoughtful communicator who is fluent in English
- Mandarin, Bengali, Spanish and/or Arabic proficiency would be a big plus but is not a requirement
This is a full-time position with great flexibility in terms of scheduling. We would consider a strong candidate who is interested in working on a part-time basis.
