The Ports & Transportation Department plans for and develops policy related to NYCEDC’s maritime, aviation, freight, passenger transportation, and waterfront assets. These assets include marine terminals, airports, piers, freight rail facilities, heliports, and ferry landings. Ports & Transportation is the leading provider of strategic planning for aviation and transportation policy initiatives that foster economic development in New York City.
Your Role: As a member of the Ports & Transportation team, you will be responsible for planning, policy formulation and project implementation for ferries and other passenger transportation projects in New York City.
Responsibilities:
Ferries – As a Project Manager, you would participate in planning and policy development for NYCEDC’s passenger ferry projects including, most notably, the Citywide Ferry System (CFS) and a Rockaway Landing Study.
- Support implementation of the CFS through service planning, presentations, outreach, project tracking, and other planning-related tasks.
- Lead a planning and implementation project for ferry infrastructure utilizing federal funds.
- Actively monitor and pursue non-NYC funding opportunities to support ferry and transit improvements
Passenger Transportation – In addition, you will also participate in transportation planning across the City’s broader transportation system including:
- Completion of technical transportation analyses, particularly related to public transit systems, including all typical and non-conventional modes.
- Preparation of studies for proposed transportation projects or to identify transportation needs in New York City.
- Using of a variety of transportation data, mapping, models, simulations, etc.
- Monitor federal and state issues with respect to passenger transportation, including regional transportation planning
As a Project Manager with Ports & Transportation, you will be expected to work in a dynamic environment with often competing priorities. The ideal candidate will also:
- Respond quickly to short-term requests and changes to projects while managing ongoing project needs.
- Participate or lead public/elected outreach tasks in conjunction with the Government and Community Relations team.
- Develop presentations and perform outreach on findings from analyses and tasks
- Coordinate effectively with NYCEDC’s Planning, Development, Asset Management, Legal, and Real Estate Transaction departments, as well as numerous other City agency partners like Department of Transportation, Department of City Planning, and the Office of Recovery and Resiliency, among others.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Urban Studies or related field; extensive work (2+ years) in New York City’s ferry or transportation field in conjunction with a Bachelor’s degree will also be considered
- Familiarity with New York region transportation, urban infrastructure and economic development issues. A working knowledge of the City process, agencies or other relevant experience is preferred but not required.
- Interest in participating in or managing a series of individual projects.
- Ability to prioritize competing needs and opportunities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated project management ability
- Ability to succinctly convey complex transportation and planning concepts to both lay and executive audiences.
- Strong visual communication skills utilizing software such as GIS, Illustrator or other tools is preferred. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel.
