RBSCC Community Empowerment Center Seeks Housing Specialist – HomeBase Program (NYC)

Job Summary: The Housing Specialist will be responsible for attaining permanent housing throughout NYC for HomeBase clients

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-the-ground outreach to identify new housing resources
  • Develop and maintain linkages with brokers, landlords, real estate companies, and management offices that lead to a housing placement
  • Facilitate appointments and accompany participants to apartment viewings
  • Conduct housing inspections for clients who have been approved for apartments
  • Work with brokers/landlords to obtain documentation such as leases, deeds, W9’s, etc.
  • Assist clients with completing housing applications
  • Work closely with Case Managers to expedite placements and make recommendations for successful moves
  • Other duties as assigned by the housing specialist supervisor or program director
  • Assist housing specialist supervisor to ensure performance objectives including number of families rehoused are met
  • Work with all HomeBase staff to ensure that client housing needs are being addressed in a timely and thoughtful manner

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Extremely flexible and willing to travel to HomeBase sites, meetings with clients, brokers, real estate companies and landlords throughout the five boroughs
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience with the homeless population
  • A commitment to social justice and experience working for non-profit organizations.
  • Ability to conceptualize challenges and communicate creative solutions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Docs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to problem solve, build relationships and a sense of humor

Salary: $20-$22/hourly

Employment Type: Full-time Position. 35 hours per week.
