The Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) is seeking a seasoned B2B business Development professionals for its Brooklyn Industrial and Transportation Workforce 1 Center (ITC) in Sunset Park. Working closely with the Center Director, the candidate will work closely with SBIDC’s longstanding community, business, and government partners to secure job orders for staffing services for Brooklyn-based industrial and transportation businesses. The Account Manager will be chiefly responsible for sales goals (aka job orders in local industrial jobs) and then filling those roles.
Primary Responsibilities
- Source and close new leads for industrial staffing services
- Cultivate existing relationships with employers in order to generate job opportunities for our jobseeker base
- Secure job orders to meet monthly contract goals
- Make ongoing follow-up calls with employers to determine employment status and satisfaction with services delivered
- Market job opportunities to jobseekers through one-on-one meetings and on-site recruitment events
- Screen candidates for job interviews and make appropriate referrals to employers
- Meet performance expectations and prepare regular reports of results
Skills and Qualifications
- Associates degree
- 3+ years’ experience in B2B business development with at least 1 years in an industrial firm
- 1 year experience in hiring staff (for an company, agency or your own team)
- Uncanny ability to develop and close new leads
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Tech savvy and highly organized
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate well with a diverse group of jobseekers, business owners, and community partners, both orally and in writing, is essential. Many of these jobseekers and business owners speak English as a second or other language, and/or may use technical and/or industry terminology to describe jobs or particular skills
- Fluency in Spanish or Mandarin a big plus
Salary
$45,000 – 50,000 base with up to 20% bonus of salary if exceed goals

The Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) is seeking a Career Advisor for the new Brooklyn Industrial and Transportation Workforce 1 Center (ITC). The Career Advisor works to assist job seekers with their career development and their job search, and helps to secure employment for them in collaboration with the Account Manager. This person will be the primary point of contact for jobseekers, and will provide assistance not only with job placement, but also with referrals to partner organizations for additional services, education, and training opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead orientation sessions for new jobseekers, with support from the Intake Coordinator
- Assist job candidates in exploring career paths
- Identify current job openings that match candidates’ skills and interests
- Review resumes and assess candidates’ eligibility for specific job openings
- Assist candidates in preparing or revising resumes
- Conduct workshops to help build candidates’ skills and improve their chances of employment
- Develop and grow win-win partnerships with organizations serving job seekers
- Follow up with candidates to obtain placement information and provide retention support
- Input data into database and generate reports on job placement and retention results
- Provide referrals to outside organizations for additional services, training, or education
Skills and Qualifications
- Associates Degree
- At least 3 years’ case management, social work, or other human services experience, preferably with a high volume caseload
- Entrepreneurial spirit, roll up your sleeves attitude and ability to get things done
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work well with a diverse client base
- Ability to create partner relationships
- Experience with tracking results in a database and pivoting

Economic Development Outreach Intern
Job Description
SBIDC seeks an Economic Development Outreach Intern to join our Business Services team. The objective is to provide direct on-site engagements (e.g. site visits) with industrial and manufacturing businesses within the Sunset Park, Gowanus, and Red Hook neighborhoods, and to obtain real-time feedback on issues, needs, and trends impacting businesses.
The intern will routinely refer businesses to the team to conduct needs assessment and promote business services including, workforce assistance, training, incentives, financing, navigating government, and real estate assistance. In addition, these engagements will be used as opportunities to build relationships with SBIDC and expand membership.
Tasks
- Surveying industrial businesses located in the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone
- Data collection and entry into Survey Monkey
- Follow-up via email and/or phone
Preferred Skills
- Excellent Communications skills and a “people person.”
- Comfortable with outreach techniques: door to door outreach, phone calls, emails, exceptional follow up, etc.
- Proficient in Excel.
- A knowledge of SBIDC’s three neighborhoods: Sunset Park, Gowanus and Red Hook.
