Center for Court Innovation Seeks Program Coordinator, Youth Justice Board (NYC)

The Center for Court Innovation, a project of the Fund for the City of New York, is a non-profit organization that promotes new thinking about how to reduce crime and incarceration while strengthening public trust in justice. The Center creates operating projects, including the award-winning Red Hook Community Justice Center and Midtown Community Court, that have been documented to improve public safety and reduce the use of jail and prison. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research on topics of justice reform and provides consulting services to criminal justice innovators.

The Center is seeking a Program Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Director, Youth Justice Programs, the Program Coordinator oversees the Youth Justice Board program. The Youth Justice Board is an after-school program that brings together 15-20 teenagers from across New York City to study and devise policy recommendations on an issue affecting youth in the City. Members acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources to develop credible policy recommendations and have direct access to adult stakeholders in the field. In the first year of the program’s two-year cycle, Board members conduct extensive research on a selected issue, develop and publish informed policy recommendations, and present them to policymakers and key stakeholders. During the second year members work to implement the recommendations by piloting initiatives, campaigning directly to officials at key agencies, and collaborating with stakeholders.

The 2016-2017 Board will focus on the relationship between homelessness for young New Yorkers and foster care, juvenile, and criminal justice system policies. Board members will interview experts on the topic and develop recommendations designed to address systemic issues contributing to youth homelessness.
