Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Asian Americans and all those in need. AAFE seeks a qualified Housing Counselor who is a self-starter, and who is comfortable working in a close-knit team-oriented setting, open to self-reflection and willing to learn on the job. The Housing Counselor will work with the local community under the direct supervision of the Program Director. The Housing Counselor will be responsible for the following activities:
- Counsel and assist disadvantaged tenants, immigrants, seniors, and other community members to preserve their rights, entitlements, and benefits
- Develop workshops on housing issues
- Report on program outcomes achieved
Programmatic Support
- Provide support on programming as needed
- Assist in coordination of special events and other tasks that may be necessary to advance AAFE’s organizational mission
- Assist with reporting and other deliverables to funders as needed
- Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- BA or 2-3 years of proven relevant experience at a minimum working with housing issues required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple, complex tasks
- Highly motivated, energetic, and dynamic self-starter who is able to work independently, and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational and computer skills, including MS Windows & Word
- Commitment to working with culturally diverse communities and environments
- Fluency in Chinese is a plus
Compensation:
Depends on experience. Excellent health benefits with paid vacation, holidays, sick days, and personal days. Pre-tax deduction for retirement and Metrocard.
