The Campaigns & Communications Assistant position will require experience with outreach and mobilizing for campaigns; enthusiasm to travel frequently; excellent writing skills; knowledge about international labor rights issues with a strong feminist analysis; and persuasive speaking skills to audiences of all sizes. An ideal candidate has been active in anti-sweatshop or other economic justice campaigning and is an independent, innovative and driven individual.
Job Responsibilities:
- Write content for ILRF’s website, blog, and social media pages, and draft campaign and outreach materials, letters, press releases, action alerts, and other communications
- Research to help support and develop multiple campaigns housed at ILRF, in particular developing our new campaign for women workers’ rights
- Outreach and travel, mostly within the United States, to promote and expand ILRF’s campaigns; build a broader activist network with unions, faith-based organizations, NGOs, and other allies; and deepen relationships with supporters by representing the organization publicly at speaking events, conferences, coalition meetings, and actions
- Design, plan and implement a range of campaign activities, including organizing demonstrations, press conferences, workshops, and other events
- Update ILRF’s website and maintain a consistent social media presence to support ILRF campaigns, as well as actions from allies and coalition partners
- Assist in the writing, design and dissemination of public reports
- Assist in the organization’s fundraising activities
- Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of ILRF’s CRM system and website
Required Qualifications:
- At least two years campus-based or community organizing experience developing, implementing and running corporate-focused or legislative campaigns on labor, economic justice or other social justice issues
- Interest and availability to travel extensively within the United States, and also available for occasional travel abroad
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Tech-savvy and proficient with Microsoft Suite
- Experience using social media
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple work streams
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish, Bangla, Thai or other foreign languages
- Experience with CRM systems (i.e. NeonCRM, Blackbaud, GetActive, ActionNetwork, or SALSA) and social media organizational tools such as Hootsuite
- Graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficiency with Drupal
- Experience in organizing demonstrations, creative actions, and educational events
- Experience as a trainer, workshop leader, and public speaker

Development & Executive Assistant

The Development & Executive Assistant will report to the Executive Director and will be a key member of the ILRF Development team, playing an integral role in the organization’s communications, administration, and fundraising. Responsibilities include executive support, board liaison/scheduling, database administration and maintenance, donor communication, donor events planning, and intern program coordination. This job is an excellent entrée into understanding nonprofit management and an overall perspective on ILRF’s full range of labor rights advocacy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Executive Support:
- Carry out a wide variety of administrative tasks for the Executive Director, including managing an extremely active calendar of appointments, drafting personal correspondence, drafting meeting agendas, and note-taking during meetings
- Communicate directly, on behalf of the Executive Director, with board members, donors, and external parties
- Assist with communications and planning with ILRF’s Board of Directors, coordinating meeting preparation and logistics and liaising with Board members on various planning, follow-up, and communications needs, including the coordination of calls and agendas for board sub-committees
- Coordinate staff meetings, developing weekly meeting agendas, scheduling staff presentations and syncing discussions with organizational planning
Development Support:
- Work closely with Executive Director and Senior Development Officer to plan and carry out logistics and communications for donor events
- Prepare donor outreach, including producing donor acknowledgments and fundraising communications via email blasts and social media
- Manage funder data and ILRF’s constituent database by entering new contacts and donations, ensuring timely data entry, and regular clean-up of database
- Assist with the research of grant prospects, outlining of pre- and post- proposal tasks, and provide additional support for writing and editing of grant proposals and reports
- Produce timely and accurate fundraising reports including metrics analysis
- Ensure all donations, donor information and thank-you replies are tracked and logged accurately in NeonCRM
- Other duties, as assigned
Operations/Office Support:
- Assist with organization-wide planning, partner communications, and planning logistics for the annual staff retreat
- Provide “reception” function for the organization by assisting visitors to the office
- Perform general office duties – primary phone coverage; reserve conference rooms; order/coordinate in-house meeting refreshments; manage email inboxes; process and distribute incoming/outgoing mail
- Communicate with candidates for hire, coordinate interview schedules, and assist with the production on new hire packets
- Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of ILRF’s CRM system and ILRF website
Internship Coordinator:
- Oversee, recruit, and coordinate the organization’s intern program
- Liaise with staff supervisors and educational programs
- Communicate with candidates for hire, coordinate interview schedules and assist with interviews
Required Qualifications
- Proactive approach to troubleshoot and address potential problems
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple work streams
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks
- Ability to represent ILRF professionally at meetings and coordinate effectively with other ILRF staff and allies

Cotton Campaign Coordinator
International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF) works for a world where workers have the power to speak out and organize to defend and advance their rights and interests; a world where workers have the right to form unions and bargain collectively to secure a safe and dignified life for themselves and their families; and a world where everyone is free from discrimination, forced labor and child labor. The ILRF houses the Cotton Campaign.
The Cotton Campaign is a global coalition of human rights, labor, investor and business organizations dedicated to eradicating child labor and forced labor in cotton production. Our goals are to end the state systems of forced labor in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan’s cotton sectors. We pursue our goals by advocating to the governments of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan; advocating to governments, companies, investors, and international institutions to use their influence with the governments of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan; supporting civil society in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan; and raising public awareness and activism.
ILRF is in search of an independent and innovative worker with strong communication skills, deep knowledge about human rights and labor rights, and excellent judgement to coordinate the Cotton Campaign. The Cotton Campaign Coordinator will be responsible for building consensus among coalition participants, developing and leading implementation of the coalition’s strategic plan, and raising the campaign’s profile. The Coordinator is an employee of ILRF who reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible to the campaign’s steering committee on matters of campaign strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Steering Committee to continuously develop and implement the campaign strategy, working with committee members to identify advocacy opportunities and to support them to lead on advocacy efforts within their area of expertise
- Communicate regularly with the broader set of civil society and business stakeholders engaged in the campaign, including Uzbek and Turkmen civil society allies, businesses, trade unions, investors and NGOs
- Ensure effective information sharing among coalition participants and stakeholders
- Facilitate regular steering committee meetings and support ongoing communications between meetings
- Support coalition working groups, including those on communications and fundraising; facilitate their operating and maintain effective coordination among them
- Work with the Steering Group to identify and engage new allies for the coalition
- Produce specific work products for the coalition, such as reports, letters and public statements, and support coalition participants to produce campaign-related documents
- Manage drafting, revising and collecting signatures for joint letters sent on behalf of the coalition
- Arrange and support coalition meetings with key stakeholders, including governments, companies, international institutions and investors
- Fundraise for the campaign’s work to continue, including by working with the development team, managing relations with funders, and writing grant proposals and reports
- Manage, develop, and maintain www.cottoncampaign.org, the coalition’s website.
- Manage the Campaign Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn accounts and support coalition participants to use their respective social media to advance campaign strategies.
- Pitch campaign-related stories to traditional media, and support coalition partners to engage traditional media to cover the campaign issues
- Coordinate campaign and policy strategy with ILRF internal campaign and policy teams in order to maximize synergies.
- Participate fully in ILRF strategy development, policy analysis and campaign planning, supporting ILRF’s overall mission and contributing to staff collaboration and team building.
- Report on Cotton Campaign and related supply chain analysis to the ILRF board and other key constituents as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience in social justice and/or policy advocacy campaigns
- Experience working to support labor and human rights
- Experience in coalition building and facilitation of multi-stakeholder dialogue
- Ability to work well under pressure, manage work streams and budgets, multi-task, and work creatively
- Experience developing and leading implementation of a strategic plan
- Well organized and strong attention to detail
- Excellent communications skills, including listening, writing, editing, and speaking
- Fluency in English, knowledge of Russian and/or Uzbek helpful
- Knowledge and experience using multi-media tools, including social media
- Bachelor’s degree required
