New York’s largest and most effective environmental and consumer advocacy group is now hiring for a statewide campaign to protect the environment and public health. TheNew York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that advances important public interest issues through grassroots organizing and advocacy, public education, and media exposure. Since 1973, NYPIRG has played a key role in fighting for more than 150 public interest laws and executive orders that protect the environment and public health, safeguard consumers, improve public transportation and foster responsive, democratic governance. In our most recent major victory, NYPIRG fought to stop large companies like Exxon and Halliburton from drilling for gas in New York using a controversial technology known as fracking.
The position is ideal for students, recent grads and others interested in a job that provides valuable organizing and public speaking skills in a campaign environment as well as for recent graduates interested in a career in public interest work or preparing for law or graduate school and there are rapid advancement opportunities for qualified individuals.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate is energetic and has good communication skills and a strong concern for social justice issues. Prior campaign experience is a plus.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 2:00pm-10:00pm
Compensation: $500-$700/week & benefits
