Green Worker Cooperatives Hiring for 2 Positions (NYC)

Two Job Descriptions: F/T Outreach Coordinator & P/T Worker Co-op Developer

Green Worker Cooperatives is a Bronx-based organization dedicated to incubating worker-owned green businesses in order to build a strong local economy rooted in democracy and environmental justice. We train and develop worker cooperatives that have a positive environmental impact and enable the transformation of their members and community.

A. Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for registering participants into Green Worker Cooperatives’ 5-month Co-op Academy, a green business boot camp for worker-owned cooperatives.

Duties:

  • Generate 6 leads per week of individuals and groups who’ve expressed interest in registering into the Co-op Academy
  • Follow-up with individuals who have expressed interest in the Co-op Academy
  • Register a minimum of 5 teams of aspiring cooperative entrepreneurs into each Co-op Academy session (two sessions per year)
  • Recruit & coordinate a team of 3-6 volunteers to assist in outreach efforts
  • Coordinate 2 in-person information sessions about the Co-op Academy each month
  • Coordinate 3 events per year in the Bronx that build public support for cooperatives
  • Identify 2 public events per month and coordinate with the Outreach Team and GWC Coordinator to ensure the organization is represented at select public events.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in community/labor organizing or direct sales
  • Familiarity with community-based organizations, educational institutions, entrepreneurship & workforce development organizations in the Bronx
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Some familiarity with worker cooperatives
  • Bronx residents preferred
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Salary: F/T $41,600 per year with benefits.

B. Worker Co-op Developer

The Worker Co-op Developer is responsible for the development of a menu of service options for graduates of our Coop Academy, a 6-month cooperative business boot camp, in order to provide them with ongoing support that will grow their cooperatives and help them reach their goals. The Worker Co-op Developer would be an innovative and out of the box thinker capable of conducting thorough assessments of business operations and governance structures; helping co-ops troubleshoot problems as they arise; connecting co-ops with new opportunities; and holding them accountable to their promises. Additional goals for this position are to develop and strengthen the inter co-op relationships among cooperatives within the GWC network as well the relationship between GWC and its member cooperatives.

Duties:

  • Survey Coop Academy graduates to identify needs
  • Be the ongoing point of contact for all cooperatives developed by GWC
  • Assess performance and needs of all cooperatives developed by GWC
  • Schedule and facilitate strategic planning retreats for GWC co-ops and assist in the development of yearly goals and milestones
  • Coordinate trainings for cooperatives on specialized topics as needed
  • Coordinate mediation for cooperatives as needed
  • Identify resources and opportunities that can support the growth and development of GWC member cooperatives
  • Compile and share best practices on cooperative governance and business operations.
  • Schedule and confirm location, dates, guest speakers, agenda, and attendees for quarterly co-op assemblies
  • Prepare and assist cooperatives with obtaining capital
  • Represent GWC at events, conferences, etc.

  • Flexible schedule with ability to work occasional weekends

Salary: P/T, $20 per hour with benefits.
