Voter Engagement Coordinator – YWCA of Queens**
Two positions available:
1 Chinese-speaking Coordinator
1 Korean-speaking Coordinator
Description
This is a short-term appointment through May 13th. This is a non-exempt, part-time coordinator position. This individual will work, on average, 15 hours/week, with a potential range of 10-20 hours/week.
Since, 2014 the YWCA has been a member of the Asian and Pacific Americans Voting & Outreach to Increase Civic Engagement (APA Voice). We are a part of an 18-member coalition and are funded by the Coulter Foundation, which funds a lot of civic engagement work for the Asian community. As a member of this coalition, we are tasked with “Get Out The Vote” outreach.
Between January and March 2016, we will fulfill the following civic engagement activities to assist individuals to register to vote in this year’s election cycles and increase the number of Asian American and Pacific Asian American voters.
- Assisting people with registering to vote and filling out voter pledge cards
- Calling people to help them register and remind them of the key election days in 2016
- Representing APA Voice & the YWCA of Queens programs at community events & canvassing in neighborhoods in Queens
- Inputting data into databases in a timely and organized manner
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: implementing all grant-funded activities: voter engagement events, door-knocking, phone banking, collaborating with media to cover grant related events, collaborating with high school guidance counselors, collegiate volunteer coordinators and student clubs and campus organizations at all schools to assist with voter registration; facilitating volunteer programs, including an orientation session before each outreach event, compiling program receipts and outcomes, and preparing final report for funder.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Bilingual in Korean and/or Chinese
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Quick learner and passionate for community development work
• Innovative, creative problem-solver able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram)
• Experience working with groups of people representing diverse social identities and political perspectives
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree with relevant experience
• Experience in community organizing, campaigns, education or related field
• Experience convening small groups
