Description:
The ILR School is seeking an Administrative Assistant C04 for the Worker Institute (WI) located in the New York City ILR Extension Division. The Worker Institute at Cornell engages in research and education on contemporary labor issues to generate innovative thinking and solutions to problems related to work, economy and society.The Administrative Assistant works in a team environment and is responsible for all administrative and programmatic needs of The Worker Institute (WI) and its programs, including communications and marketing as needed. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Worker Institute Program Manager and in direct collaboration with various faculty members and Communications Manager.

Responsibilities include organizing day-to-day administrative functions of multiple programs; scheduling and coordinating basic and complex meetings, workshops, events, and conferences; program specific financial tracking of multiple accounts, budgets and grants; composing correspondence requiring exercise of judgment and originality; independently creating and updating content and materials for the program web pages, updating content for various social media platforms, The Worker Institute website as needed.

This is a full-time, 35 hour a week, C05, bargaining unit position that falls under the CWA contract and is located in the NYC Extension Office.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of four years of experience in an office setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced, rapidly changing and dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously with rapid task execution and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad range of people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with others while creating a high quality and respectful work environment.
  • Proficiency with a number of computer-based software systems including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Drupal, Twitter, Salesforce, and other social media platforms as needed by department.
  • Experience working with HTML or other web development tools.
  • Experience with internet and library searches.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five to six years of experience in an office setting preferably in higher education.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and survey software.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the labor movement, worker’s organizations, social justice, leadership development, human rights, adult education and or social science.
