Job Summary: WHEDco’s Sustainability and Project Manager fulfills the organization’s vision that everyone deserves a healthy and vibrant community by increasing the sustainability of WHEDco’s affordable housing initiatives and programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assist a Farm Manager to manage WHEDco’s urban farm, improve farm viability, and increase its impact on building residents and the community at large.
  • Engage residents, building maintenance, and WHEDco staff in recycling, gardening, and other sustainability practices that reduce building operating expenses while increasing the quality of life for building residents and WHEDco clients.
  • Maintain energy benchmarking system (WeGoWise) and generate reports tracking WHEDco buildings’ performance over time, and compare them to other comparable properties.
  • Research and implement capital improvement projects that enhance energy efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency in WHEDco buildings, including the oversight of consultants, architects, and engineers to ensure timely completion and achievement of project goals.
  • Improve WHEDco’s bottom line by managing utility accounts and budgets, documenting and monitoring a pre-existing energy retrofit project that includes a combined heat and power system (a.k.a. “cogen” plant), as well as other energy and water saving measures. Assure WHEDco compliance with applicable government regulations regarding energy conservation and sustainability.
  • Support and collaborate with the Director of Housing and Housing Associate on housing development, asset management, and other projects.

Qualifications:

Required :

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s is preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ prior relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel, other MS Office programs.
  • Flexible nature, “can do” attitude, pro-active problem-solver, avid team player.
  • Effective, self-motivated project manager with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent writing skills, data management, and analysis skills.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: community organizing, project management, sustainable development, farming / urban gardening, energy benchmarking and compliance

Preferred:

  • Masters in Urban Planning or similar field such as business, political science, public administration, or sustainability.
  • Direct experience complying with sustainability and energy efficiency regulations, and/or securing project financing for “green” capital projects.
  • Dual language (English and Spanish), experience engaging diverse communities.
