Overview
MAYDAY.US is looking for a New Media/Digital Director to take ownership of all web and social media content, online advertising and our email program. Reporting to our executive director, the right candidate would understand how to hire and manage technical and design talent, have the domain expertise specific to superpacs/advocacy organizations, and effectively project manage campaign initiatives in the context of a small team with limited resources.
We are a small team looking for someone capable of wearing many hats.
About MAYDAY.US
MAYDAY.US was launched in 2014 by Lawrence Lessig as a grassroots movement to fight big money corruption in politics by electing reformers. The team was quickly able to raise $11 million dollars for our 2014 electoral pushes. With your help, we’re looking to repeat that success as we begin to focus on 2016 electoral politics and advocacy.
Core Responsibility: Digital Organizing Lead
- Oversee digital project management within the MAYDAY.US Electoral Plan, including fundraising, social media, mobilizations and online advertising
- Direct the work of a part-time developer to ensure organizational technical needs are meet
- Work closely with our Executive Director and Campaign Director to enforce messaging strategy
- Identify new campaign opportunities and coordinate rapid-response digital and media streams
Qualifications
- Required
- Deep knowledge of digital campaigning domain expertise: online list-building, conversion best practices, content production for social media/blog and email copywriting
- 2+ years of experience managing political and/or issue campaigns
- 4+ years of Professional digital campaigning experience
- High-level strategic planning or project management experience
- A demonstrated track record of managing campaign email and social media
- Desired (but not required)
- Experience running online advertising for list growth and fundraising
- Experience of the intersection of online and offline organizing
- Experience with digital analytics and A/B testing
- Creativity and comfort with experimenting with new tools and tactics
- Knowledge of legal limits on 501(c)3/501(c)4/527 (“super PAC”) organizations
- Ability to write/manipulate basic HTML/CSS
- Some familiarity with our CRM – NationBuilder
- Unicorn (let us know if you have any of these)
- Technical experience assessing, reviewing or modifying any of the following:
- Ruby on Rails web apps
- DevOps plans and setups
- jQuery and/or javascript work
- Knowledge of other CRMs including ActionNetwork and ActionKit
- Ability to prepare a project brief and even wireframes for microsites to lead a designer in production of web content.
- Photoshop/Illustrator Design manipulation skills
- Video production process management
- Technical experience assessing, reviewing or modifying any of the following:

- Ability weigh the costs and merits of technology tools and platforms
- Highly organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once without sacrificing quality
- Experience coordinating with diverse teams of organizers, political, press and digital campaigners
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to write for a variety of audiences and platforms
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with team members who are remote
- Excellent decision making and problem solving skills, even without having all the information you might need

- Position Type: Part Time
