Planning, Development and Administrative Assistant in White Plains Office.

Position Description:

The Planning, Development and Administrative Assistant will work on a variety of projects, mostly focused on the promotion of Affordable and Workforce Housing in Westchester County, Long Island and the Hudson Valley. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated and engaged individual to learn first-hand about the entire process of Affordable Housing development projects, property management, homeownership and non-profit advocacy. The Assistant will work under the Executive Director and Senior Director of Housing Development and Finance, as well as representatives of the various CHI Departments. The Assistant will ideally have an Urban Planning or Housing Development background and be knowledgeable of planning practices such as mapping, zoning and municipal codes as well as how to create project programs, read and interpret Architectural, Planning and Zoning documents. A primary task of the Assistant will be to assist with the function of the Workforce Housing Coalition; promoting events, engaging members and providing communications support. The Assistant will also aid in the general operations of the company, by providing administrative assistance to the various departments as per necessary. The Assistant will know how to manage online communications such as Social Media, Constant Contact and eTapestry. The ability to work well under deadlines, with a variety of tasks under various supervisors/co-workers is a must. Strategic communications skills and experience dealing with Municipal and State entities are also a plus.

The Assistant will:

  • Maintain the CHI Website, mailing list and Social Media presence.
  • Research potential opportunities for Affordable Housing development in Westchester County.
  • Conduct planning analyses of neighborhoods (demographics, maps) and development sites.
  • Develop place-making initiatives and assist with development proposals.
  • Monitor Homeownership course registrations and assist with DHCR Rental and MWBE filings.
  • Assist with UCC Filings and Home Monitoring of clients receiving CHI Grants.
  • Visit sites and attend relevant meetings as needed.
  • Assist in strategic communications: writing press releases, newsletters etc.
  • Assist with basic Property Management tasks.
  • Assist team with administrative work as needed.

The position is compensated as per industry standards among entry-level employees.

Qualifications:

  • Recent graduate–holding a Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban studies, communications, real estate development or a related field or 3 years of relevant experience if candidate does not possess Bachelors degree.
  • Has a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • A strong background in Metro New York is a plus.
  • Possesses a vehicle and a valid NYS Drivers licence.
  • Strong communication, research, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Work independently and with a team to meet tight deadlines in fast paced environment.
  • Background in Social Media, Microsoft Office and Mapping a plus.
  • Based in a locale in which CHI has a developmental interest (i.e. Westchester County, Suffolk County) is a plus.

Duration: Immediate start. Minimum of 24 hours per week. Potential to work overtime as needed.
