Full Time • Starts January 4, 2016 • Competitive Pay • Excellent Benefits Work from Anywhere in the continental U.S.
Background

With grassroots movements inspiring a new generation of activism for economic, racial, and environmental justice, and the heightened political energy of the election year ahead, 2016 promises to be a year of fierce fights and big opportunities.

MoveOn is hiring Field Organizers to build a national network of MoveOn leaders to fight for and defend progressive values and achieve concrete victories. This is an opportunity to be part of the development and growth of a national field volunteer leadership base. Each organizer will be responsible for empowering MoveOn members to take on leadership and train others to join them.

As a MoveOn Field Organizer, you’ll be at the center of it all, recruiting, training, developing, and coaching volunteers and MoveOn members to form a tight network in every state across the country, with these resources at your fingertips:

● The largest online progressive membership base in the country

● An organizational legacy of building game-changing technology tools and wielding them collaboratively for social change

● MoveOn’s history of organizing and field experiments — and hundred of thousands of members who’ve taken action on the ground.

● A culture of acting independently, seeding progressive grassroots infrastructure, and working nimbly to make the biggest impact at tipping point moments

● A professional, win-oriented, fun-oriented team of colleagues

Responsibilities

● Volunteer Management. You will show your leadership in managing relationships, building culture, and creating the MoveOn member experience with MoveOn members, progressive allies, and fellow MoveOn staff to set and meet goals for geographic regions or issue areas.

● Volunteer Recruitment. You’ll recruit MoveOn members online, in person, and over the phone to participate in leadership development and action opportunities.

● Leadership Development. You’ll develop and lead best-in-class organizing trainings for top activists and prepare them to organize events in their communities on a variety of issues.

● Event and Action Organizing. You’ll support volunteer leaders to organize strategic actions and events in target states for national-priority campaigns and hot-button local campaigns.

● Social Media. You’ll train and coach member leaders to use social media to advance their campaigns.

● Rapid Response. MoveOn is uniquely suited to mobilize millions of people at a moment’s notice. When news breaks, our network needs to respond immediately. Whether it’s rallies or house parties, you’ll make sure MoveOnresponds forcefully when we need to spring into action.

● Reporting. You’ll report directly to MoveOn’s Field Network Manager and work closely with fellow Regional Field Organizers and other staff within the Organizing Team and the rest of the organization, including campaigns and communications staff, as well as progressive allies.

4. Flexibility and nimbleness. This is not a 9-5 job, political moments are constantly changing and it is key to our organizing that we be able to be flexible and change pace or direction to support colleagues and campaigns across the various regions.

5. Disciplined professionalism—you’re a timely, hardworking, low-ego leader, ready to work sometimes long hours in a fast-paced environment to get the job done. You’re very comfortable working remotely, and able to stay on task even without a team of colleagues sitting physically next to you. You’re consistently able to convey a professional tone to volunteers, supporters, voters, and fellow staffers. You’re highly organized, goal driven, results oriented, and course correcting.
