Job Overview:
The Community Outreach Referral Associate, located in New York, NY will join an existing project team supporting the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to support post Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The Referral Associate will provide clerical and customer service support to expand upon the current groundwork in supporting a larger training and workforce development plan.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Provide customer service via phone and in-person for residents who are interested in connecting to related employment opportunities and accessing training and track RSVP’s to related recruitment events.
- Perform data entry to create a resident profile, document resident interest and skill sets.
- Pre-screen residents for potential Sandy related employment opportunities, documenting screening forms and referral made. File resumes and certifications received through pre-screening.
- Respond to resident inquires left through voice mail messages and emails. Update progress notes indicating resident contacted and supportive services offered.
- Perform additional clerical functions which support the work of the Sandy recovery efforts.
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience in professional reception/ administrative work and customer service, and/or community work;
- Or a mix of education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and strong typing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with one or more of the following preferred: community organizing, workforce development, adult education and job training.
- Bilingual strongly preferred.
