Pratt Center for Community Development Seeks to Hire Community Canvassers

The Pratt Center for Community Development works for a more sustainable and equitable New York City in partnership with community-based organizations, small businesses and policymakers. We combine urban planning, research, policy advocacy, and small business assistance to advance innovative solutions to low- and moderate-income communities’ greatest economic and environmental challenges.

Position Summary:

We are hiring part-time community canvassers to recruit New York City homeowners to participate in a Pilot Program in which their home will receive a low-cost energy efficiency retrofit. Canvassers will have face-to-face interactions with neighborhood residents, be responsible for conveying program information and conducting a brief intake with interested homeowners. Canvassers may be asked to speak at community meetings and events.

Canvassing commences mid-January with consistent hours through the end of March, with the possibility for an extension. Minimum of four hours/week. Hours are flexible, but the canvasser will need to be available during weekday daylight hours and/or 9am-1pm on weekends.

Compensation:

$15/hr

Qualifications:

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

• High level of comfort communicating with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

• Ability to communicate goals and objectives of the program in a clear, confident manner and answer questions as needed

• Ability to be outside on one’s feet for several hours at a time

• Enthusiasm and a can-do attitude

• Dependable and punctual

• Ability to follow a general script and adjust as needed

• Familiarity with handheld devices (tablet)

• Must be at least 21 years old

• Second-language fluency a plus

• Prior canvassing and energy efficiency experience is a plus
