The youth organizer/outreach coordinator will be responsible for identifying participants to take part in The Vision for Tele-visiting services, conduct youth focus groups, outreach within local schools, community organizations, individuals, families and other systems. The youth organizer/outreach coordinator will work closely with the director to oversee tele-visiting visits between parent and child, identifying prisons where parents live, communicate with prison staff, family members, community leaders, schools, community organizations and organizing networks within the South Jamaica and Far Rockaway neighborhoods.
Essential Functions:
- Work closely with the Director and Coordinator to oversee tele-visiting visits between parent and child, identifying prisons where parents live, communicate with prison staff, family members, community leaders, schools, community organizations and organizing networks within the South Jamaica and Far Rockaway neighborhoods.
- Manage youth meetings, activities or events and support youth leaders with any materials or tools necessary to carry out the objectives of their meetings in a timely and effective manner.
- Conduct outreach and strategically grow, deepen, and manage the relationship between the community and organizations within South Jamaica and Far Rockaway offering service and resources.
- Work across lines to identify and connect with youth The Child Center of NY serves.
- Build strategic partnerships with local stakeholders such as residents, business leaders, community leaders, churches, school officials and other youth-serving agencies.
- All other duties related to the project.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Familiarity with the South Jamaica/Far Rockaway community and its neighborhoods, agencies and institutions
- Strong interpersonal skills with youth, colleagues, parents, teachers, systems leaders, elected officials and representatives from other community organizations
- Strong political instincts; comfortable operating in highly politicized environments
- Knowledge of policy development and policy advocacy in community organizations, school district or local government settings
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Experience engaging multiple stakeholders in collaborative processes
- Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice
- Tech savvy
Qualifications Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or recent Master’s graduate required with two (2) years of organizing experience with demonstrated results
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English/Hmong) The Child Center of NY is an EOE.
