Community Organizer:
Responsible for coordinating advocacy campaigns related to criminal and juvenile justice and school-to-prison pipeline issues. Coordinate a national campaign to eliminate the use of high school disciplinary records in the college admissions process by conducting outreach to grassroots organizations addressing school discipline issues and providing ongoing support and opportunities to such groups. Organize young people with direct experience in the juvenile and criminal justice systems in Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo and their family members to participate in the Raise the Age New York campaign to raise the age of criminal responsibility. Promote and conduct community education sessions on criminal and juvenile justice issues, school-to-prison pipeline issues, and advocacy skills. Identify, train, and support young people and family members to serve as leaders in the various campaigns.
Qualifications:
Experience organizing diverse stakeholders to effect policy change. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent professional and academic experience may substitute for degree
