Job Opening: Legal and Policy Analyst

The International Labor Rights Forum is a human rights organization that advocates for workers globally. We hold global corporations accountable for labor rights violations in their supply chains; we advance policies and laws that protect workers; and we strengthen workers’ ability to advocate for their rights.

The Legal and Policy Analyst will help drive ILRF policy advocacy in support of strategic campaigns against forced labor, child labor, and other labor rights abuses. This position will require knowledge of international labor rights instruments and their associated enforcement mechanisms (e.g. GSP petitions, OECD-NCP complaints, etc.), which can support and help shape labor rights advocacy campaigns. An ideal candidate is one who has worked with a labor union and/or is interested in working with a small, fast-paced NGO and is an independent, innovative and driven individual.  The applicant must possess strong writing skills and the ability to work effectively in diverse coalitions.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Work with ILRF’s Legal and Policy Director to develop strong relations with policy-makers, union leaders, and NGO partners in the U.S. and abroad
  • Draft and submit policy briefs, testimony, recommendations and comments to USG agencies in order to advance ILRF campaign advocacy priorities
  • Research, draft and support ILRF legal and policy submissions, including GSP petitions, FTA complaints, OECD-NCP and World Bank complaints
  • Conduct research on relevant topics and publish analytic reports with policy and campaign recommendations
  • Develop/maintain expertise in leading social certification initiatives and government enforcement mechanisms for promoting respect for labor rights in global supply chains
  • Work closely with campaign staff to develop campaign strategies and outreach to supporters
  • Participate in and lead diverse coalition efforts to end forced and child labor
  • Grant proposal writing and reporting
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years work experience on labor or human rights issues, preferably with an international focus
  • JD degree
  • Fluency in English a must; fluency in one of the following languages preferred: Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, Bangla, Khmer, Burmese, French, Thai
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and lead work streams
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively within coalitions

Job Opening: Campaigner

The International Labor Rights Forum is a human rights organization that advocates for workers globally. This position will require experience mobilizing people to get involved in campaigns; enthusiasm to travel frequently; excellent writing skills; and knowledge about international labor rights issues with the ability to speak persuasively and compellingly to audiences of all sizes on topics including freedom of association, living wages, child labor, forced labor, and the power of organizing for achieving social change. An ideal candidate is one who has been active in anti-sweatshop or other economic justice campaigning and is an independent, innovative and driven individual with excellent communication skills.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Write content for ILRF’s website, blog, and social media pages, and draft campaign and outreach materials, action alerts, and other communications;
  • Research to help support and develop multiple campaigns housed at ILRF
  • Outreach and travel, in the United States and abroad, to promote and expand ILRF’s campaigns; build a broader activist network with unions, faith-based organizations, NGOs, and other allies; strengthen ILRF’s connections with and support for grassroots partners abroad; and deepen relationships with supporters by representing the organization publicly at speaking events, conferences, coalition meetings, and actions
  • Design, plan and implement a range of campaign activities, including organizing rallies, protests, press conferences, workshops, and other events
  • Assist in the writing and dissemination of public reports
  • Assist in the organization’s fundraising activities, including grant reporting and proposal writing
Qualifications:
  • At least two years campus-based, union or community organizing experience developing, implementing and running corporate-focused or legislative campaigns on labor, economic justice or other social justice issues
  • Experience in organizing demonstrations, creative actions, and educational events
  • Experience as a trainer, workshop leader, and public speaker
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Interest and availability to travel extensively within the United States, and also available for travel abroad
  • Experience and skilled in working in coalitions and project teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple work streams
  • Ability to multi-task and work creatively
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Fluency in English a must; fluency in Bangla, Spanish, or another language is preferred
  • Strong computer and research skills, basic knowledge of layout and design a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in online organizing and using social networks for social change
  • Bachelor’s degree
