The Labor Studies & Employment Relations Department of the School of Management and Labor Relations, Rutgers University, seeks 2-3 non-tenure track faculty members to provide teaching and support for its programs. Working under the direction of the Department Chair, the main responsibilities of the position are to teach the equivalent of 6-7 courses per year in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Instructors are also expected to assist with student counseling and career advisement, participate in placement and recruitment activities, participate in outreach activities and carry out other service duties as assigned.
The subject matter expertise of the positions within the broad interdisciplinary field of labor and employment relations is open. For one or two positions, we prefer someone who can teach large introductory courses in the undergraduate program, such as Introduction to Labor Studies and Employment Relations and/or Work, Society and the Quality of Life, although we would also consider an individual with broad expertise in other areas of undergraduate instruction within the department. For the final position, we prefer individuals who are experienced instructors of undergraduate writing and who can mentor graduate students who assist faculty in writing instruction; they should also be able to teach in at least one subject area within labor and employment relations. Experience teaching online is a positive, as is willingness to teach off-campus and/or in our non-credit adult education programs.
These positions begin September 2015 and come with annual contracts with possible renewal with successful performance and are contingent on budgetary support.
Requirements:
1. Graduate degree required. A PhD in a field related to Labor and Employment Relations (industrial or employment relations, sociology, economics, history, political science, American studies; women’s studies, Latino or other minority studies) preferred. A PhD in English with a specialty in writing instruction or ESL, or an EdD, Law, or other terminal degree will be considered.
2. Evidence of successful teaching excellence with a student body similar to the one here at Rutgers.
