CWA District One Health Care Digital Media Specialist and Online Campaigner

Reports to: CWA District One Legislative and Political Director and Upstate NY & New England Area Director

Communications Workers of America, District One is seeking a creative, results-oriented online campaigner and social media specialist to bolster the union’s online and social media capacity and presence, and to mobilize our online activist base. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and a thoughtful strategist with a record of success designing and maintaining websites, deploying social media and using online tools to drive action and win campaigns.

Background:
Communications Workers of America, District One is a progressive union representing nearly 150,000 workers from New Jersey to Maine, with a commitment to militancy, membership mobilization and building a broad social movement for economic justice. The union represents about 10,000 health care workers in New York State, and is seeking a skilled individual who can provide social media, website and online campaigning support to organizing, legislative and bargaining campaigns involving our health care sector workers. In addition, this person would be expected to provide support to the District’s overall bargaining, legislative and political and organizing efforts.

Responsibilities:
The Digital Media Specialist must be able to develop comprehensive, strategic online advocacy campaigns and analyze and enhance data to engage supporters and potential supporters. Specific responsibilities include:

· Develop and execute engaging online campaigns to promote CWA’s campaigns and identify activists and potential supporters.
· Write and edit concise e-mail communications to our members and to our supporters in the general public.
· Enhance CWA District One’s social media presence through Twitter and other social media outlets.
· Write online campaign materials, including website petition pages, tell-a-friend pages, social media content, etc.
· Develop and/or maintain a variety of websites in health care and non- health care sectors of the union.
· Identify opportunities for new campaigns and campaign partners.
· Systematically track and analyze data on online campaigns to maximize engagement, growth, effective advocacy and grassroots fundraising.
· Assist CWA staff in utilizing online and social media tools to advance their campaigns.
· Manage online supporter database and advocacy platform. Knowledge of HTML, CSS and other web standards.
· Work with CWA’s allies to integrate online campaigns, website and social media efforts with the work of our allies in labor and the progressive movement.

Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
· At least 2 years’ experience planning and executing online campaigns, primarily using email.
· Exceptional and concise writing skills.
· Experience using social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn and others to drive action and conversation.
· Experience researching online behavior of demographic groups and knowledge of resources available to enhance data for micro-targeting.
· Experience placing and optimizing online advertising, especially on Facebook and Search Engine Marketing.
· Must be steeped in the metrics of online organizing. Must be always looking to experiment, analyze and optimize.
· Ability to plan and manage complex projects and meet deadlines.
· Good political instincts. Experience with labor political or legislative advocacy campaigns preferred.
· Strong commitment to workers rights and social justice.
· Sense of humor is a big plus.

Salary: Starting salary range $55,000–$65,000, commensurate with experience. Includes medical and dental benefits.
