Prof. Sofya Aptekar recently joined SLU after spending six years teaching in sociology and critical ethnic and community studies at UMass Boston. And she’s had a busy summer publishing articles and presenting papers. Here’s some of what she’s been up to:
- An op-ed with Shannon Gleeson in In These Times entitled “All Undocumented Immigrants Deserve Citizenship—Not Just ‘Essential Workers’.”
- A paper entitled “Enlistment of the foreign-born in the U.S. military: U.S. empire and transnational militarism” presented at the American Sociological Association annual meeting on August 9th.
- A scholarly publication with Justin S. Myers. “The tale of two community gardens: green aesthetics versus food justice in the big apple.” in Agriculture and Human Values.
- A presentation with Shannon Gleeson, “Working for Immigrant Rights in the Trump Era: Xenophobia, Solidarity, and Active Resistance within the Labor Movement” at the American Sociological Association Annual Meeting on August 10th.
Welcome, Prof. Aptekar!
