The new Civic Engagement and Political Participation programming is part of the Institute’s ongoing commitment to increase civic and political participation of workers, union members, and community activists.

==> National Women’s Political Caucus NY| Candidate Training: Learn how to run for office!
The Murphy Institute is collaborating with the NWPC New York City Chapter (NWPC NY) to host a Candidate Training* for women who aspire to hold elected office and individuals interested in helping women candidates and their campaigns. Classes focus on leadership development, building a solid base/viable platform and ethics.

Pre-requisite: 1 page double-spaced essay describing the political office you seek and your aspirations for office.
Early Registration: $195 |After 9/1: $250 |Registration Ends on 9/15. Limited scholarship assistance available.
*The NWPC candidate training is open to all without regard to race, gender, national origin or other characteristic. Though NWPC candidate training is focused on increasing the number of qualified women who run for office, the training is not limited to women.
==> Latino Leadership Institute Electoral Activism & Leadership Academy
The Murphy Institute is partnering with the LLI to provide the popular Electoral Activism & Leadership Academy for organizers, activists, and aspiring politicians, regardless of ethnicity or race. The Academy provides hands-on training in the areas of electoral campaigns: petitioning, campaign finance, messaging, public speaking and debate, media relations, social media, base-building, fundraising, campaign management and campaign planning.

The Murphy Institute will launch a new Civic Engagement & Leadership Development course. The Civic Engagement & Leadership Development course provides union members, union staff, organizers, community activists, CUNY students, and aspiring politicians with a deeper understanding of the political system and public policymaking process; and how to engage public processes to achieve change.
==> 2016 Election Briefing Series
The Murphy Institute will launch a quarterly 2016 Election Briefing Series. The series will examine the election cycle from the primaries and caucuses to the general election, dynamics of the 2016 campaigns and policy implications; and the impact of organized labor and other movements and forces.
