Low Wage Worker Organizer With NY Communities for Change

New York Communities for Change seeks an experienced community and labor organizer for a full time senior position. Organizer must be a native or fluent speaker of Spanish and have a strong command of English. Organizer will help to sustain and grow the NYCC low-wage immigrant worker committee as well as help to organize and strategize the supermarket worker city-wide campaign. Both the NYCC worker committee and the supermarket campaign organize around wage and hour and other workplace issues as well as broader community issues such as immigration rights, education and housing rights. The organizer will also help coordinate legislative city and state wide campaigns to raise the minimum wage.

Senior organizer will supervise with a small team of organizers. Work responsibilities include but are not limited to

Leading the development campaign strategy
Facilitating and city-wide and store organizing worker meetings

  • Assist in super-market union organizing campaigns
  • Strengthening and helping to build a strong worker-led committee
  • Organizing rallies, marches, press conferences, workshops
  • Occasionally assist with coordination of ESOL classes as it relates to organizing work
  • Phone banking and administrative responsibilities.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in labor and/or community organizing are all required to apply. Experience with social media, teaching or coordinating ESOL classes, supermarket work, and/or popular education pedagogy is not required but will be taken into account.

  • coordinación de las clases de inglés cuando relaciona con el trabajo organizativo
  • también llamadas y responsabilidades administrativas.
  • Se requiere trabajar los fines de semana cuando es necesario.
  • Tres años de experiencia como organizador/a sindical o comunitario son requeridos. Experiencia con medios sociales como Twitter y Facebook, enseñar y coordinar clases de inglés, trabajo en supermercados, y/o pedagogía de educación popular ayudaran pero no son requisitos para aplicar por el puesto.
