Workers’ Studio: El Co-op Opening

Join us for the exhibition opening of Workers’ Studio: El Co-op in the Community Partnership Gallery on Sunday November 10th, from 2-5pm.

Program:
2 pm–5pm: Exhibition Opening and Co-op Fair
Representatives from NYC based co-ops will provide information on their services.

2pm and 4pm: Short Film Screenings
Short film screenings at 2pm and 4pm will present stories on the process and experience of the participating co-ops, highlighting their capacity for empowerment and business building.

Workers’ Studio: El Co-op is a series of collaborative art projects that use art as a tool for worker-led organizing. The Workers’ Studio is nomadic and functions mostly in Day Laborers’ Worker Centers as a weekly encounter facilitated by the artist Sol Aramendi. Workers use the studio to create art projects that support their organizing and advocacy. This exhibition features works produced with the workers co-ops Love & Learn Childcare Cooperative, Apple Eco Cleaning, Brightly Port Richmond Cleaning Cooperative, Mujeres en Movimiento, and Mirror Transled Beauty Cooperative.Works by community collaborative groups from Adhikaar, Lunicorns, and Mujeres en Movimiento are also on display.

Assistants Surovi Bain and Hana Takimoto. El Coop Mobile was designed and build by A+A+A. The Spanish-language creative writing workshop were led by Claudia Prado. Exhibition Curated by Eva Mayhabal Davis.

El Estudio de los Trabajadores: El Co-op es una exposición de una serie proyectos artísticos y colaborativos que utilizan el arte como herramienta para la organización dirigida por los trabajadores. El Estudio de los Trabajadores es un encuentro semanal nómada que funciona principalmente en los Centros de Trabajadores, es facilitado por la artista Sol Aramendi. Los trabajadores usan el estudio para abordar proyectos de arte que apoyan su organización y labor. Esta exposición presenta trabajos producidos con las cooperativas de trabajadores Love & Learn Childcare Cooperative, Apple Eco Cleaning, Brightly Port Richmond Cleaning Cooperative, Mujeres en Movimiento y Mirror Beauty Cooperative. También se exhiben obras de grupos comunitarios de colaboración de Adhikaar, Lunicorns y Mujeres en Movimiento.

The Community Partnership Exhibition Program at the Queens Museum provides opportunities for cultural and other nonprofit organizational partners to develop and mount short-term exhibitions based on their programs and our collaborative projects.
