SUNY POTSDAM IS SEEKING AN ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Assistant Director of the Student Success Center

The Assistant Director is an essential member of the SSC team. The SSC provides advising and academic support to undergraduate students to foster student success, retention, and graduation.  In addition, this position will be responsible for the coordination of New Student Orientation and administration of the Starfish student success/retention software system. Duties include:

New Student Orientation

  • Chair the college’s Orientation Committee; oversight of Orientation budget
  • Planning, implementation, and assessment of all new student onboarding and orientation programming for both the Potsdam and Watertown Extension campuses
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of student Orientation Leader staff and faculty/staff Orientation Advisors
  • Advising incoming first-time and transfer students

Application Administrator for Starfish

  • Member of Starfish Advisory Committee
  • Administer the Starfish software platform; principal application administrator for campus-specific set-up and functionality
  • Liaison between EAB (vendor), campus IT, and functional support team
  • Train students, faculty, and staff on the use of the platform
  • Coordinate all student success and retention-related reporting using the platform and campus-wide early alert Progress Survey functionality in Starfish
  • Ongoing technical support and assistance for campus users

Student Success Center Shared Responsibilities

  • Academic advisor to Exploratory students
  • Programming and 1-1 academic and study skill development assistance
  • Goal-setting, GPA calculations, degree audits, and academic recovery support
  • Participation in Open House, Decision Day, and other recruiting efforts

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree. Experience as an academic advisor and providing academic support to undergraduate students.

D’YOUVILLE COLLEGE SEEKS A DIRECTOR OF COLLEGIATE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM (CSTEP)

Job Summary: The CSTEP Director will be responsible for the administration, oversight and coordination of the D’Youville’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP). CSTEP is a partnership between New York State and the D’Youville, which provides a broad range of services to students with the purpose of increasing access by minority or disadvantaged students to academic programs that prepare students either for licensure in the professions or for employment in scientific and technical fields. Our grant will work with 150 students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all functions and activities of CSTEP, including policy and program development and overseeing supportive services provided to students.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with New York State Education Department (NYSED) and ensure the program remains compliant with NYSED guidelines. Maintain records and support data used for state and institutional programmatic reports.
  • Develop, oversee and manage program budget.
  • Perform regular assessment of program outcomes, student satisfaction and retention. Implement changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Work with Academic Departments and Admissions to organize the recruitment process and participate in recruitment events.
  • Provide counseling to students on academic, financial, social and other matters while maintaining knowledge and sensitivity towards the academic, economic, social, cultural and other needs of CSTEP students. Be the point of contact and liaison with faculty and department chairs to ensure students are receiving necessary support.
  • Working with the College’s Office of Student Success, ensure that advising and tutoring for CSTEP students is in place and accessible.
  • Working with the College’s Career Center, ensure professional development and internship availability for CSTEP students
  • Organize CSTEP student events and celebrations.
  • Oversee the CSTEP coordinator
  • Perform all other related duties as necessary; perform all other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree at the time of appointment
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success
  • Two years of experience in program administration in the areas of academic support services, counseling, opportunity programs, or a related field.
  • Experience in fiscal management and budgetary oversight; experience with grant-funded programs is a plus.
  • Experience working with students from historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged groups.
  • The ability to participate in specific weekend and evening events during the academic year is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Special Circumstances: This position will at all times be contingent upon third-party grant funding. Any lack of such funding may lead to a reduction in work hours or the elimination of this position.

In collaboration with eight of CUNY’s senior campuses, Macaulay Honors College (MHC) provides the most promising undergraduate students with an elite academic program of interdisciplinary seminars, personalized advisement, and experiential learning supported by dedicated funding for study abroad, internships, and research. The office of Student Development provides educational co-curricular programs and activities for Macaulay College students. Reporting to the Director of Student development, the Assistant Director for Student Development will provide students with a full complement of leadership development and service learning opportunities. The Assistant Director will have excellent leadership training skills, providing staff and students with regular training opportunities and will be able to work collaboratively with academic departments, administrators and advisors from multiple campuses.

Duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates to help present informational and educational programs, such as student leadership and training and orientation; assists with the development, monitoring and maintenance of student organization and event databases;
  • Assists with electronic and traditional advertising/announcements of student activities connecting to existing channels such as Macaulay Monday, social media, websites and other channels– as generated by both the Director as well as by student leaders, themselves;

THE SOLIDARITY CENTER SEEKS A POLICY DIRECTOR

This position is currently remote due to the global health crisis. With a vaccine mandate in place, we have begun returning to our office. By the time this position begins, we anticipate that the Policy Director will work on site at our Washington, DC headquarters, with options for part-time telework.

Summary of Position

As a member of Solidarity Center’s management team, the Policy Director plays an institutional leadership role with direct responsibility for the organization’s government and congressional relations. As the person responsible for advancing Solidarity Center’s education and outreach efforts with Congress and the federal government, this individual establishes and maintains relationships with representatives from multiple Congressional offices and committees, federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations. The Policy Director is the organization’s liaison to multiple labor and international development coalitions and represents Solidarity Center in a variety of public for a promoting global worker rights among U.S. policy makers. Understanding of the labor movement and experience with trade unions is essential.

The ability to manage divergent interests, to respond to requests for information quickly and accurately, and to distill and synthesize complex pieces of information efficiently tailored to various audiences is critical to success in this role. In addition, the Policy Director must be able to speak extemporaneously, stay on message, and demonstrate a solid knowledge of Solidarity Center and its programs. This individual must have a keen political sense and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.

This work requires close coordination with the Executive Director, Communications Director, Regional Program Directors and other Washington and field-based regional staff.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of across U.S. Congress and federal agencies Extensive knowledge of current international labor, socio-economic and geopolitical issues
  • Familiarity with federal budget processes and foreign assistance programs
  • Firsthand trade union experience, with extensive knowledge and deep understanding of labor movement dynamics in the U.S. and globally
  • Ability to understand and effectively articulate Solidarity Center’s mission and programs to diverse audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with Solidarity Center staff, U.S. and foreign trade union leaders, senior U.S. and foreign government officials, and representatives of non-governmental organizations
  • Exceptional writing/editing, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Basic computer literacy in word-processing and simple spreadsheets

Candidates for the position should have an academic background, preferably a master’s degree, in labor relations, political science or international affairs, or equivalent work experience.  Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.

This position entails occasional travel outside the U.S. A medical condition that precludes the ability to travel regularly may disqualify a candidate from eligibility.

Congressional Outreach and Education

  • Develop and strengthen Solidarity Center relationships with Congressional offices, committees, and caucuses
  • Seek opportunities for Solidarity Center partners and staff to engage with Congress, including via SC-led briefings
  • Coordinate and help draft Congressional testimony for Solidarity Center staff
  • Respond to inquiries from members of Congress and committees
  • Draft and submit questions for the record for Congressional hearings
  • Track annual appropriations process and promote Solidarity Center priorities in conjunction with the AFL-CIO
